Family Snowshoe

March 20, 2010

An easy family snowshoe in the mountains of Manning Provincial Park.

Manning Park offers stunning scenery and easy access for novice snowshoers.  People of all ages can enjoy this easy daytrip.

We’ll take a chairlift to the top of the Gibson Pass Ski Area and enjoy a day of exploration on rolling mountain ridges.  You’ll see the twisted, dwarfed trees that struggle at the top of the tree line.  Windy ridges with deep, drifting snow offer everyone the chance to dig a snow cave and climb inside --- you’ll be amazed by how cozy they are, and snow caves offer a great way to survive an unexpected overnight stay in the mountains.

At day’s end, the chairlift will bring you back down to the ski hill parking lot.  Total snowshoe distance will be no more than 3 kilometers, making this an easy daytrip for people of all ages and abilities.

Trip Leaders:

 Kelly Pearce
Kelly is a Hope resident and naturalist, who will show you some of the winter survival strategies used by critters of the cascades.

 Ed Campbell
Ed is a Hope resident and professional avalanche technician.  Ed will share some tips on winter safety, with particular emphasis on identifying avalanche risk when traveling in the mountains.
